Summer of Sisterhood: Every Cup Counts

As a mom, I know exactly how precious our time with our kids is. We try to slow down a little over summer, which allows us to do more together as a family. But the days can also be long so we try to find fun projects that we can share and learn from one another. This weekend we got inspired to put up a lemonade stand near the beach. The kids loved picking out the lemons, buying all the ingredients and making their special blend. We bought some cups and filled a cooler with ice and were on our way. We had fun working on a sign and set our price at $0.50 a cup. When we thought about what to do with our earnings, we agreed that we should donate 50 percent to Every Mother Counts, the non-profit organization that I founded in 2010. What better way to educate my kids and our community at the same time about the importance of improving maternal health care globally so that more moms survive childbirth to enjoy their children and watch them grow up.

If you are looking for something fun to do on a hot day this summer think about setting up your own lemonade stand.

This recipe is made so kids of all ages can participate and you can customize it to your own taste and budget. My kids love strawberries, they can be a little messy, but they’re so worth it when they are farm fresh!

We’d love to hear your stories and photos so please share!
