Summer of Sisterhood Roundup

August 31, 2012

The weather is still warm, but the end of Summer is right around the corner. We’re busy getting the kids ready to go back to school, kicking off new projects at work, and getting back to our normal school-year routine…. As we approach Labor Day, let’s look back at what a great Summer it’s been and find ways to stretch it out just a little bit longer.

Here at Every Mother Counts, we encouraged you to create a "Summer Bucket List" and share it with the women in your life who support you as part of your sisterhood. That need to help each other is an important part of the sisterhood we hope you’ll carry with you as life speeds up this Fall.

We want to take a moment to thank all of you who took the time to give back, by learning more about other mothers and maternal health around the world and by doing a little something to make a difference. We’re so glad to have you as part of our Sisterhood!

Book Club

Many of you joined our book club and explored an array of stories about different perspectives on motherhood, women’s roles in society, and participated in some of the Q&A’s we exchanged with the authors of these amazing reads. Please check back with our blog and add one of these books to your fall book club reading lists.

Lemonade Stand Kit

Several of you had lemonade stands with your kids and helped promote maternal health awareness. Thank you for sharing the needs of other women around the world with your community and for teaching your kids to give while having a little summer fun!

Summer Cleaning

Many of you took the opportunity to clean out closets and drawers, and donate old cell phones and baby gear to help fellow mothers here in the U.S. and abroad. Thank you for your kind donations.  Through our collaborations with Hope Phones, Recrib, Afya and It’s a Miracle Maternity you can continue making donations through fall.

Share your Kids' Letters from Camp

Sometimes absence makes the heart grow fonder.  While the kids were at camp, some of them missed us and remembered why we’re so important to them. Some kids never have the opportunity to share these sentiments with their mothers, and we were truly touched by your children’s sweet expressions (and funny stories) about how much you matter to them.

Try Something New

We explored lots of new things together like new recipes, fitness exercises, and pregnancy tips..

We hope you’ll continue to share these ideas with your sisterhood and keep the momentum going.  We also hope youll post your Summer of Sisterhood experiences on our blog!

Finally, we compiled a list of volunteer opportunities for here and abroad. We have lots of ideas to help you give back, and to help other moms and families both here at home and around the world.

Thank you, Sisters, for a memorable Summer!
