Helping Those Affected By Hurricane Sandy
In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy many people came together, volunteered their time and donated money and supplies in an effort to help those affected by the storm. We can’t stop now! With thousands of people still without heat, power and hot water, there is so much more to be done. We’ve compiled a few resources we have come across to help you find ways to lend a helping hand. Below are some of the activities our friends are involved in. We have learned that a lot of the donation drop offs have been inundated with clothes but household goods, unused underwear, etc are still needed so please check in to see exactly what is needed before you donate.
If you are aware of other initiatives please share details with us here.

*Bring your warm cloths, coats, bedding, towels, diapers, batteries etc to any of the locations listed below through Sunday 11/11 (maybe longer) and they will drive the supplies directly to devastated areas.
Flower Girl, 245 Eldridge St, 12-7pm
The Smile, 26 Bond St, 10a-10pm
The Smile To Go, 22 Howard St, 10a-6pm
Bari Studio, 23 Leonard St, 9a-7pm
Tacombi, 267 Elizabeth St, 11a-midnight
Whitman’s, 406 E 9th St, 5-11pm
Isa, 348 Wythe Ave, Brooklyn, 6-11pm
*AFYA Foundation is conducting a drive on 11/9 from 9.30am-4.30pm for local victims of Sandy. Drop off is at their headquarters located at 140 Saw Mill River Road in Yonkers.
Ocean Breeze Angel Relief
We learned of this imitative after driving around Staten Island last Tuesday. We met Jean Laurie who along with some other women in their community that was devastated by the hurricane came together to form their own volunteer and donation efforts because nobody else was there to organize or coordinate relief efforts. Please check their facebook page for latest info.
Cartons of donations ship to their NJ intake location.
