Philadelphia 5k

While members of EMC ran in New York and DC, team EMC Philadelphia did a 5K in solidarity with our runners and with pregnant women around the world. Following in the footsteps of Philly legend Rocky Balboa, our group began our journey on the iconic steps in front of the Philadelphia Art Museum. We then wound our way along the Schuylkill River, taking in the fall foliage and landmarks like Boathouse Row.

Wei Wei, EMC’s head of business development and partnerships, was joined by Sunil, frequent contributor to EMC’s blog and founder of the Bindi Project, a non-profit that is dedicated to fostering love and respect for women and girls in India, his daughter Kiara, Salas, a freelance web developer involved in increasing civic engagement among young Philadelphians, and University of Pennsylvania third-year law students David, Kelsey and Ben. While Kiara tore up the pavement on her bike, followed closely by Sunil, the rest of Team Philly opted to walk. Topics of conversation included “The Walk”, EMC’s film on distance, which made quite an impact on many in the group, the causes of maternal mortality in the United States, how individuals can most effectively make an impact on global issues within the context of their daily professions and lives, and exactly how vicious the geese along the Schuylkill really are when they're approached. Luckily, that last question remained unanswered.
