My Hope for 2030
In 2000, the Millennium Development Goals made a great beginning toward accomplishing the daunting and magnificent task of reducing global poverty. With an eye towards 2015, global leaders constructed an action plan that has helped us come a long way towards meeting those goals. But as 2015 looms just a couple short years ahead, we acknowledge we’ve come a long way, but we still haven’t accomplished those goals. It’s time to reevaluate, recommit and make a new plan for what we hope to accomplish going forward. That’s why Melinda Gates has come up with a beautiful new campaign that’s all about hope. It’s called, “My Hope for 2030.” Here at Every Mother Counts, and especially during our Every Heart Counts campaign, we think Melinda is on to something special. Here’s what Melinda wrote in the Gates Foundation blog, Impatient Optimists:
Today, global leaders are starting to think about what the next set of development goals should look like. The specific process of creating the goals will happen at the UN, but we all have a role to play in determining what the future holds. To help illustrate our collective potential, I thought it would be interesting to share different hopes and visions for women and girls by 2030.
