Christy Turlington Burns Calls on Moms Around The Country to Participate in a 5K Run/Walk to Increase Awareness and Support for Maternal & Child Health
On Sunday, November 6, Run/Walk in Solidarity with Every Mother Counts as they Participate in the ING NYC Marathon
Fashion icon and global maternal health advocate Christy Turlington Burns, along with a team of 9 other individuals, is participating in the ING New York City Marathon on Sunday, November 6 to raise money and awareness for her non-profit organization, Every Mother Counts (EMC). To further her commitment and elevate awareness for maternal and child health Christy is calling on supporters everywhere to create their own team, and participate in a 5K run/walk in their own town during the official ING New York City Marathon while the EMC team hits the pavement in New York City.
5k is less than the average distance a pregnant woman in the developing world must travel to receive the basic health care she needs to deliver her baby. And often, 5K is simply too far to walk for a woman who is 9 months pregnant, in labor, and has no access to transportation.
How to join: It is as simple as grabbing a couple of friends and going for a 5K run/walk during the official ING New York City Marathon. Then share your photos and stories with Every Mother Counts. Two additional ways to help support the un-official run:
1) Purchase the official Every Mother Counts marathon team shirt for your team and all proceeds will go to EMC.
2) Have friends and family sponsor your run by making donations through Crowdirse and all proceeds will go to EMC.

Every Mother Counts is an advocacy and mobilization campaign founded by Turlington Burns in 2010 to increase public awareness of and support for improved maternal and child health. Now in its second year, Every Mother Counts seeks to engage new audiences to better understand the challenges and the solutions so that we can take action to improve the lives of families by improving the health of girls and women worldwide.
