1,609 Miles For Maternal Health
Thank you! You logged over 1,600 miles for maternal health by running in solidarity during the London Marathon on Sunday.
This past Sunday, EMC founder, Christy Turlington Burns, ran the Virgin Money London Marathon for Every Mother Counts.
The goal every time she runs is to raise awareness that thousands of women and girls live too far away from the healthcare and supplies they need for safe motherhood. Her goal with this marathon was to do just that, and to reach finish line in under 4 hours. And with the overwhelming support felt in London from around the world, Christy completed the race in at 3 hours 46 minutes — beating her personal record by 17 minutes. Thanks to you, she didn’t have to run alone alone to ensure that mother’s don’t have to run or walk when bringing life into the world.
Over 300 people, from all over the world, used their charity miles app to show their solidarity, each one of them generating 25 cents for Every Mother Counts for every mile run and 10 cents for every mile biked. Together, we completed total of 1,609 miles — with 278 miles biked in solidarity, 1133 miles ran in solidarity, and 198 miles walked.
We had runners on 5 continents (North America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia) in 10 countries (Ukraine, UK, US, Mexico, Oman, Sydney, Quebec, Singapore, South Africa, Tanzania) and running in 40 out of 50 states in the US.
Now, let’s keep it going. Tell your friends that one of the easiest ways to be part of the solution is to run, walk, or bike with Every Mother Counts using Charity Miles. When you use Charity Miles and select EMC, the proceeds go directly to the projects we support that improve maternal health for mothers both here in the U.S. and around the world.
Thank you to all who came out on Sunday, and keep your eyes on our social media to find out #WhatIsPossible — when we work together.
