Two weeks ago, the World Health Organization released a decade’s worth of data on the state of maternal health around the world. The good news is, global maternal mortality rates continue to decline. The bad news is, the United States is one of only two countries in which the number of maternal deaths is on the rise. In fact, just in the past three years, the U.S. has fallen from 46th to 55th in terms of global maternal mortality rankings. As a country, we spend more on maternity care than any other country in the world, and yet our maternal mortality rates are worse than in any comparably wealthy country.
We at Every Mother Counts are working harder than ever to change this in the US and around the world.
We are excited to share our most recent impact report, and invite you to explore some of the highlights of what we accomplished in 2018, such as:
- expanding our support for women of color in the U.S.
- doubling down on our advocacy work
- increasing our funding to protect Rohingya mothers and children on the frontlines of the refugee crisis
- closing out our first-ever grant—a transportation voucher program in Uganda that has directly impacted more than 200,000 women and babies.
Fulfilling our promise to make childbirth and pregnancy safe for every mother is not possible without the support of our community. We are grateful for your support as we continue this journey on behalf of moms everywhere.
