Let’s Lift Up Women This International Women’s Day

Help us lift up women this International Women’s Day. All you have to do is join our Instagram campaign.

“Women are the principal method of transport in Guatemala. On her head she has a jar of water. On her back a child. In her hand another child. And in her stomach yet another child. Guatemala has not had the opportunity to have open and transparent information and education as to the value of a woman that is the heart of a nation.”
-Zury Rios, Guatemala

Sunday, March 8th is International Women’s Day — a global event that’s been celebrated since 1911 to honor the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future. This year’s theme is “Make It Happen,” which encourages people to take effective action for advancing and recognizing women. Since Every Mother Counts mission is to make pregnancy and childbirth safe for every mother, we’re working to #MakeItHappen for every mother, every day. Here’s how we’re celebrating:

Throughout history women and mothers have carried many things — water, firewood, children. Every Mother Counts wants to turn the tables this International Women’s Day and get people to carry women instead.

We are asking our community to show solidarity for empowering women and mothers. On 3/8, via Instagram, share a photo of you carrying a woman, much like in the EMC logo, and tell us 1 thing in the caption you want for women, girls and moms. We know when women are lifted up, they can lift others; families, communities, nations.

Photos can be men carrying women, women carrying women, children carrying mothers, or whatever you think best represents your support for women and mothers. That’s how we’re showing solidarity for those who carry the responsibility of womanhood and motherhood every day.

Together, we can make pregnancy and childbirth safe for every mother.
