Raising Awareness

Storytelling can drive action.

By putting a human face on statistics, we have moved the maternal health crisis into the mainstream.

Storytelling is in our DNA; in fact, we emerged from a film. In 2010, Christy Turlington Burns created No Woman, No Cry, a documentary film that examined the pregnancy and childbirth experiences of women in Bangladesh, Guatemala, Tanzania, and the United States. The film led to a campaign to raise awareness about maternal health across the globe, and from that campaign, Every Mother Counts was born. Storytelling has remained a core component of our work since our inception. We are known for this unique contribution to the maternal health conversation, and have engaged hundreds of thousands of individuals to advance maternal health through our awareness raising efforts.

Amplifying individual stories inspires a community of passionate allies.

We believe firmly in the power of a single story. A mother. A provider. An advocate. Their stories can humanize, educate, and inspire change. We started by spotlighting maternal health stories told by those closest to the issue. Over time, these personal accounts have built upon each other, creating a global imperative to transform maternal health.
