S.783/H.R.315 The Improving Access to Maternity Care Act

The Improving Access to Maternity Care Act has two main objectives:

  • Require the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to collect and analyze data to generate a information on maternity health professional shortage areas (HPSA), leading to the designation of maternity care shortage areas, to join the existing shortage area categories of primary care, dental care, and mental health care.  
  • Provide maternity care shortage area  data to the National Health Service Corps (NHSC) to ensure that maternity care resources are targeted to the areas where they are most needed.
